Find out everything about iPhone 13

Invalid IMEI.

There are still a few months until the premiere of the iPhone 13, but the first rumors appeared on the web, which is worth taking a closer look at. How will the iPhone 13 differ from previous models? Will iPhone 13 be released in the fall? What will the new iPhone be called?  iPhone 12s or maybe iPhone 13? We will try to answer these and other questions based on the information we have collected.

iPhone 13

Although there are still a few months to the premiere of the iPhone 13, we have already noticed many rumors on the web about what Apple has prepared for us when the phone will appear in the fall. So far we heard that the iPhone 13 is expected to offer a 120Hz LTPO display on both Pro models, thanks to which it will have better battery life and a more efficient 5G modem, as well as significant improvements to all important cameras. This includes the LiDAR sensor on the cheaper iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini, as well as the new Portrait Video Mode.

As for the design itself, we have heard that the notch is shrinking and at least one model of the new iPhone 13 could have a truly sportless design. It is actually possible now that we have MagSafe loading. Finally, we could see the always-on display. Now let's move on to what we already know from the rumors about the new iPhone 13.

iPhone 13 release date

If the iPhone 13 release date is in line with Apple's previous release schedule, then we can see how this device will hit the shelves on the fourth Friday of September 2021, so it would be September 24. Despite the delays associated with the coronavirus pandemic, the iPhone 12 has already suffered, postponing its release to a later date on October 13. However, according to the announcements of Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 13 should return to the normal schedule in 2021. If it will also happen, we will definitely know about it closer to its premiere.

iPhone 13 price

According to a report by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, it was found that Apple will once again offer us the iPhone 13 in four different sizes, which should not come as much of a surprise. So you can expect the:

  • 5.4-inch iPhone 13 mini,
  • the 6.1-inch iPhone 13,
  • the 6.1-inch iPhone 13 Pro,
  • the 6.7-inch iPhone 13 Pro Max.

In terms of price alone, they will probably cost the same as the iPhone 12 series, which is.

  • $699,
  • $799,
  • $999,
  • $1099

Respectively. Apple tends to maintain a fairly rigid pricing structure with each new series and model released, so there is no concern that the price will rise sharply.

iPhone 13 or 12s?

As for the name of the new iPhone, it is not yet known whether Apple will decide to change to the iPhone 13 or add "s" to the previous model, i.e. iPhone 12s.

Since the iPhone 8 was launched with the iPhone X in 2017, Apple's naming policy has been a bit confusing as we never had an iPhone 9. After the iPhone X, we moved to XS, XS Max, and XR and then to iPhone "as well as 11, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max. Adding an "s" to the end of the model number would actually signify a return to form for Apple, which used to release alternately a new model number followed by an "s" version of the same phone the following year. How will it be this year? We'll find out closer to the premiere.

Below is a list of all released iPhone models and their versions:

iPhone 13

iPhone 13 design

One of Mac Otakara's reports, after speaking with sources in Apple's supply chain, reports that the design of the iPhone 13 will eventually offer a thinner notch. This can be achieved by moving the top speaker. According to a more recent leak from purported "industry sources," he also noted the iPhone 13 will have a smaller notch. With this, Apple will apparently achieve that degree of reduction by combining the now separate IR illuminator, sensor, and spotlight that make up the iPhone 12's Face ID unlocking system into a single module. With two fewer sensors required, we should see a much narrower notch on the iPhone 13.

If you're curious to see what the new iPhone 13 design might look like, LetsGoDigital has posted some iPhone 13 renderings - actually labeled iPhone 12s Pro - which show an Apple phone with a smaller notch and a Touch ID sensor under the phone's display.

Additionally, there are reports that the iPhone 13 could be slightly thicker which would allow for a larger battery. The biggest surprise we can expect from the iPhone 13 is that one model could have a portless design by dropping the Lightning port and opting for wireless charging and data transfer. This would be a huge change from the iPhone 12, but it could also be a landmark move for the smartphone world to slowly ditch dependence on ports and included chargers and cables. We already had this situation with the iPhone 12, where Apple did not attach any charger to the phone.

With that in mind, it's possible Apple will introduce a way to integrate Face ID with iPhone 13 bezels. Last fall, Ben Geskin posted a render on Twitter detailing how the system could work by embedding the entire TrueDept system and the earpiece inside the top headphones frame.
Another rumor suggests that Face ID sensor technology, which currently resides in the cutouts of the modern iPhone's display, may be removed by Apple. But that means the iPhone 13 will have a larger display bezel to preserve the sensor technology, but accept the leak with a bit of skepticism.

We can expect:

  • iPhone 13
  • iPhone 13 Pro
  • iPhone 13 Pro Max,
but it's not so clear if the iPhone 13 mini will show up.

The iPhone 12 mini did not sell very well and could be considered a total failure. This has led to speculation that it may be withdrawn from the market. In contrast, a new leak has kept the iPhone 13 mini still coming. We will find out more on this subject closer to the premiere.

iPhone 13 Touch IDiPhone13

Based on a Bloomberg report, Apple is currently working on offering an in-display fingerprint reader for the iPhone 13. This would be another addition to the already existing Face ID. Another report in the Wall Street Journal reports that Apple will be using a new optical on-screen fingerprint reader to take down Touch ID. Samsung phones use an ultrasonic reader, but it is argued that the optical variation may be more accurate in Apple's implementation.
Apple has never launched an iPhone with both Face ID and Touch ID, but analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also says Apple wants to add an on-screen fingerprint sensor to its 2021 devices. If this happens, we can say that Apple has already climbed to a higher technological level.

iPhone 13 display

If Apple stays with the four iPhone 13 models as it has been so far, we can expect the displays to measure:

  • 5.4 inches,
  • 6.1 inches
  • 6.7 inches.

We can also learn from the ET News report that Apple will adopt a 120Hz refresh rate for the 6.1-inch iPhone 13 Pro and the 6.7-inch iPhone 13 Pro Max. This will allow for smoother scrolling as well as improved gameplay and video playback. This is good news for iPhone fans for sure.
We have reported that the two iPhone 13 Pro models will receive a 120Hz display that will be able to dynamically scale the refresh rate up or down depending on what is being viewed thanks to Samsung's LTPO panel. This will help you save battery life.

As is well known, the LTPO panel means that it does not need any additional components under the display to allow an adaptive refresh rate, which means that phones with such screens can have a thin housing. In the iPhone 13, the LTPO display can allow the phone not only to have a super smooth refresh rate but also to keep the iPhone 12 bezel neat.

Recent rumors have meant that the iPhone 13 will have an always-on display, which can certainly be facilitated by LTPO technology. A recent video shows how this can work. The always-on display would eventually give Apple iPhones a feature that Android phones have had for a while.

iPhone 13 specification

As you know, Apple with each new model released I want to surprise us and this is the case here. A better chip for the iPhone 13 compared to its predecessor. It will probably appear in the form of the A15 Bionic, the successor to the very powerful A14 Bionic on the iPhone 12. This new system on chip SoC could be a sensible upgrade to the A14 Bionic, possibly increasing overall performance and efficiency. A significant upgrade doesn't seem likely until the iPhone 14 when Apple could potentially create a chip based on a 4nm process node. Currently, the A14 Bionic inside the iPhone 12 is a 5nm chip.

iPhone 13 could get a big boost in terms of wireless connectivity. Apple's settlement with Qualcomm documentation revealed that Apple plans to use the Qualcomm X60 5G modem in upcoming iPhones, which will likely include the iPhone 13. This is important as the 5nm X60 modem can be integrated directly into the phone's chipset, which means less footprint and lower battery consumption. There is also the possibility of using Apple's newly presented 5G X65 Qualcomm modem that can provide speeds of up to 10 Gb / s - does not mean that the current 5G network closer to the mark. In addition, 5G performance should be better as the modem can connect 5G mmWave and sub-6GHz networks simultaneously. What's more, the iPhone 13 is expected to feature Wi-Fi 6E, a variation of the Wi-Fi 6 standard that will support even faster wireless speeds.

Subsequent reports and reports suggest that the iPhone 13 may use liquid crystal polymer circuit boards for imaging purposes, resulting in faster data transmission. The addition of LCP boards in conjunction with 5G connectivity can potentially speed up applications such as live broadcasts or augmented reality. Regarding memory and data storage, we are not expecting any update from the iPhone 12. As a result, we anticipate that the iPhone 13 will be available in variants:

  • 128GB,
  • 256GB,
  • 512GB

Unfortunately, the iPhone 12 models failed our battery life test. Only the iPhone 12 Pro Max was really impressed with the high battery life. However, another Ming-Chi Kuo report on the so-called soft battery technology in the iPhone 13 argued that the new iPhones could offer increased battery capacity without increasing the design footprint. Apple may also choose to offer similar capacity in even thinner designs. We can only hope that with phones draining 5G faster, the iPhone 13 will find a way to extend battery life. And if the iPhone 13 does have no ports, we hope Apple introduces faster wireless charging so we don't have to wait hours for the headphones to fill up.

Finally, recent news and rumors from Jon Prosser stated that the iPhone 13 Pro will have up to 1TB of internal storage. This will be twice as much space as the current generation iPhones.

iPhone13

iPhone 13 cameras

We don't know much about the entire iPhone 13 range yet, but in one leak the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max offer a new 6-element ultra-wide angle lens. It would also provide an autofocus function. Current iPhone 12 Pro models have a 5-element ultra-wide-angle lens. Needless to say, the more elements in the lens, the better the image quality is.

Another interesting rumor that has surfaced suggests that Apple is looking for suppliers of a foldable lens camera that will improve the optical zoom of the iPhone 13. The periscope-like design means the telephoto lens would be positioned vertically rather than horizontally, which means you can increase the optical zoom without increasing the size of the phone.

In fact, this design is widely used by many phone makers including Samsung and Huawei to enhance their own optical zoom capabilities. So it is nothing new that could surprise you. It is not yet known which iPhone 13 models will receive an improved zoom. The improved ultra-wide-angle camera on all iPhone 13 models supports a dedicated astrophotography mode. And just like night mode is on, when you're in low light, you'll activate this mode when you point your phone at the stars or the moon.
Portrait video mode itself will offer a blurred background on videos when it's on. Reportedly, it also allows you to adjust the depth of field after taking a photo, so you can choose the blur effect after the fact. There is no data yet, whether it will be for one iPhone model or a select few.

We can also learn from other reports that the iPhone 13 camera will also receive a lot of hardware acceleration. Analyst Ross Young predicted that the new Apple phone will initially be equipped with larger sensors. As you can easily guess, larger sensors mean larger pixels and increased light consumption, which should provide better quality photos. Unfortunately, it's not clear which iPhone 13 will use these sensors, although the iPhone 12 Pro Max had a larger sensor when it made its debut in the fall of 2020.

In addition, Ming-Chi Kuo predicted that the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max will have larger openings in their ultra-wide cameras. Kuo said both phones will have an f / 1.8 aperture, compared to f / 2.4 on the iPhone 12. Coupled with the six-element lens, this means more light will enter the camera and improve image quality.

We also know that the optical image stabilization with the shift of the iPhone 12 Pro Max sensor will also return to the iPhone 13 Pro Max, next to the iPhone 13 Pro. The current model makes 5,000 corrections per second to keep the lens steady, and a stable lens means better photos, especially in low light. In one more recent report, Kuo argued there would be no new camera lens for iPhones by 2022. This is clear that the iPhone 13 may not get any new rear camera hardware, although most of us expected Apple to speed up smartphone shooting with improved computational photography.

A final addition not yet confirmed would be the inclusion of LiDAR sensors for the iPhone 13 and 13 mini, not just the Pro models. At least that's what sources talking to DigiTimes say that all iPhones in 2021 will include an advanced sensor.

iPhone 13 without ports

Apple's long-standing goal has been to create an iPhone without external ports or buttons for a clean, streamlined device. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in 2019 that Apple will release a high-end iPhone in 2021 that offers a completely wireless experience after removing the Lightning port.

An iPhone like this would probably only charge using Qi-based wireless charging, but that would require significant improvements in wireless charging speed. One rumor also pointed to the possibility that Apple might adopt a smart connector for the iPhone 2021 that would enable charging, data transfer, and syncing without the Lightning port. For now, these are just unconfirmed rumors, but let's hope they will come true.

At present, we can come across smart connectors that are limited to iPad models and have been limited to power accessories such as the Smart Keyboard.
Bloomberg claims that Apple is considering removing the Lightning port on some models of the iPhone in favor of wireless charging.iPhone 13
Japanese Mac
site Otakar released in June of the current model of iPhone 2021 with USB-C and design without cutouts, but it is not clear whether this is the exact representation of what we can expect, nor do we know whether Apple plans to slim down or eliminating the notch in devices from 2021. The USB-C port is not compatible with rumors of a lack of ports.

iPhone 13 charging

We know the iPhone 12 peaks at 20W charging, and we haven't heard any rumors about charging speeds this year. Instead, we've heard some bad news. According to Bloomberg, the iPhone 13 probably won't include reverse wireless charging, which would allow the iPhone to charge devices like the AirPods Pro and Apple Watch.

iPhone 13: What do we expect

Below is a list of what we'd like to see in the iPhone 13 when it hits the market, beyond what rumors suggest.

  • 128GB of memory, standard: Apple has allocated only 128GB of base memory on the higher iPhone 12 Pro models, leaving it behind the regular iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini. This is a good first step, but for the 21st century, it is still not enough. We are counting that 128 GB will appear in all models of the iPhone 13. We also know that Apple is not a fan of expanding the microSD card.

  • Improved Camera Zoom: Whether it's through hardware, software, or a combination of them, Apple needs to dramatically improve the iPhone's photographic capabilities when shooting from a distance. Many iPhone fans love having a good ultra-wide-angle lens, but a strong telephoto lens is just as important when you can't get too close to your subject. Perhaps Apple could learn something from Google's Super Res Zoom feature, which uses clever algorithms to almost make up for the lack of a high-powered periscope lens. The iPhone 12 Pro Max has slightly improved the optical power to 2.5x, but we'd really like to see at least 3x on future telephoto-equipped iPhones.

  • 120Hz display: If you've never used a phone with one before, the high refresh rate display makes every scrolling, tap, task, and game feel much more responsive than on standard 60Hz panels. We would have agreed to 90Hz if 120Hz were considered too expensive for battery life, but a faster refresh rate could go a long way in making iOS even smoother than it is now. Unfortunately, this was another feature teased at the start of the iPhone 12 that never got released.
We expect the iPhone 12 Pro, with a flatter design, full 5G support, and a boosted LiDAR camera, to be the foundation for Apple devices in 2021.
