These are undoubtedly the most common problems we experience and we are able to deal with them, and what if the phone is flooded?

What not to do:

  1. Don't panic! these things happen to everyone.
  2. If your phone is saturated with something relatively dense, such as fruit juice, don't waste your time. Nothing can be done.
  3. Do not shake the phone or blow hot air into it. It can easily push water particles deep into the device.
  4. Do not turn on the phone or connect it to a power source. In the worst case, the battery may explode.

Phone RepairWhat you can do:

  1. Turn it off if it is not, and hold it upright.
  2. Remove the SIM and microSD cards from the slots.

  3. If you have an older phone, you can open the back of the phone and remove the battery. However, since most current smartphones do not have removable batteries and are difficult to disassemble, the best step would be to take it to a phone repair shop before attempting to disassemble it yourself. There are DIY repair kits and YouTube tutorials you can follow, however, if you are not tech-savvy, taking it to a professional is always better.

  4. Wipe the phone with a cloth, sleeve, or paper towel. Avoid spilling liquid, as this may cause pushing it to a larger number of mobile holes. Just absorb as much as possible.

  5. If the water damage is more extensive, you can use a vacuum cleaner to carefully suck up any water that is stuck in more difficult-to-reach gaps. Make sure that no small parts such as the microSD card, SIM card, and battery are in the way before trying.

  6. Bury phone in the zippered bag full of uncooked rice. Rice absorbs fluids very well and is actually a common method of drying smartphones and tablets. You can also buy dedicated sachets drying phones that you should have in your home if you are clumsy. If you have not already, do not bother to buy them. Time is of the essence, so put your phone in the rice as soon as possible.

  7. Leave the phone to dry for a day or two. Do not be tempted to turn it on to see if it still works. Insert the SIM card into your old phone or ask a friend or relative, or a backup device that you can borrow.

  8. After a few days, you can remove the phone from the rice, replace the battery, and turn on.

  9. If your phone does not turn on, try to charge it. If this does not work, the battery may be damaged. You can try replacing the battery or consider taking your smartphone to a repair shop to be checked by a professional.

  10. If your smartphone is enabled and works as expected, it continues to closely follow the next few days to see if you notice anything unusual. Play the music, speakers, and check to make sure that the touch screen still works as it should.
